The Church History Committee of the Archdiocese of Esztergom, the Saint Adalbert Foundation for Central and Eastern European Studies, the Editorial Board of the journal “Magyar Sion”, and the Esztergom Theological College organised an international conference on November 16, 2023 in Esztergom remembering the 30th anniversary of the reorganisation of the borders of Hungarian dioceses. The main aim of the conference was to examine the historical development of the Hungarian church organisation in the East Central European context. At the conference, András Fejérdy, PI of the Sovereignty research project delivered a presentation on “The Conflicts of State, National and Pastoral Interests: Changes in the Hungarian Church Organisation from Trianon to the End of World War II.”. In his paper, he discussed the positions and strategies of the various actors involved, with particular regard to the considerations and compromises that the Holy See has attempted to make in dealing with the continuously changing political situation between 1920 and 1945.
