Between 20th and 24th of November 2024, seven members of the Sovereignty ERC research team, principal investigator András Fejérdy, Anca Şincan, Tomasz Hen-Konarski, Katalin Pataki, Przemysław Pazik, Željko Oset and Miklós Tömöry participated in the annual convention and academic conference of the Association for Slavic, East European, and Eurasian Studies (ASEEES) in Boston, Massachusetts. The four-day conference, attended by historians, anthropologists, sociologists and other researchers, provided numerous opportunities for networking and exchange of knowledge. Our aim was to present the project to a wide academic audience and outline related research results of our colleagues. Tomasz Hen-Konarski, Katalin Pataki and Miklós Tömöry presented their findings at the panel “Between Rome, Vienna, Warsaw, Confessional Loyalties and Modern Sovereignty in Central Europe, 1765-1914”, moderated by Anna Bisikalo (Harvard University). The papers were commented on by prof. Pieter M. Judson (European University Institute). András Fejérdy, Anca Şincan, Željko Oset and Przemysław Pazik took part in the round table discussion “Religious Cold War: Catholics and the Communist Regimes in East Central Europe”, chaired by James Kapalo (University of Cork) highlighting main questions of the research project by outlining case studies from the 20th century. The research team also held its bi-annual workshop in Boston, where they reviewed their plans for the next period; including the international conference to be held in Budapest next spring, and their respective publications in preparation.
