Presentation of Przemysław Pazik in Munich

On 3 May Przemysław Pazik, postdoctoral research fellow of the ERC Sovereignty project participated in the conference “Connecting Catholics in a divided world. The Vatican and the Local Roman and Greek Catholic Church in Eastern Europe as an intermediary in the Cold War (1945-1978)” organized by Collegium Carolinum (Munich) and the German Historical Institute in Rome.

Dr Pazik presented a paper “Squaring the triangle. Loyalty to the Pope and to the State of the Polish ecclesiastical hierarchy 1945-1958” aiming to show how Polish bishops and cardinals sought to insert themselves into negotiations between Poland and the Holy See and what strategies they adopted to act as gatekeepers for possible agreement between the Vatican and Polish People’s Republic.
