On December 12, 2024, Miklós Tömöry, research fellow of the ERC Sovereignty research group presented his paper “Loyalty of the Orthodox High Clery to the Dinasty and State in Revolutionary Times – The Case of Episcop Platon Atanacković” at the conference “The Eternal Cycle: Neighbours, Allies and/or Rivals – Serbo-Hungarian Relations in the 19th and early 20th Century”. The event took place in Belgrade and was co-organized by the Institute of History in Belgrade and HUN-REN Research Centre for Humanities, Institute of History. In his presentation, Tömöry was focusing on the circumstances of Platon Atanacković’s nomination by the revolutionary government in Pest in 1848, his clarification process by the court in Vienna after the defeat of the Hungarian forces. The paper covered the bishop’s relationship with the Ministers of Religious Affairs Eötvös and Thun, as well as the question of the Orthodox bishop’s oath of allegiance.
